About us

Hello! I’m Pippa, founder of The Bobbing Dot

The seed for The Bobbing Dot was planted back in 2015 when I was pregnant with my first child. I’d read some articles which explained that babies can see high contrast images from birth – and not much else. Wanting to put some of my pre-birth energy – and nerves! – to good use, I thought it would be fun to create a black and white poster for my son’s wall. I ended up spending weeks of my maternity leave designing and hand drawing each letter. I had no idea it would end up so large! Now I have three children, all of whom have loved staring up at the posters I’ve designed (sometimes even buying me enough time for a hot coffee – I guess all that work at the beginning paid off).

After making copies for friends who were finding it hard to find visually stimulating prints for their babies’ nurseries and playrooms, and receiving lovely feedback from them, I decided to create The Bobbing Dot so that other families could enjoy my carefully designed prints too.

The name The Bobbing Dot sums up some of my feelings about my motherhood journey before, during and after postnatal depression (PND). When I was in the thick of it I felt a little bit lost and small, but now I see myself on an adventure, exploring and discovering new things about myself and where I want to be in life. I am proud to say I am in partnership with PANDAs and £1 from the sale of each poster will be donated to this great cause. I had some amazing support which got me through the darker days, and I want to help others access the same kind of help if they need it.

Prints are available in the classic black and white, as well as different combinations of colours. I also offer a bespoke option to create name posters and prints in particular colours to match nursery decor. Just get in touch if you’d like to chat through different options and I’ll be delighted to help.
